Talent Based Tuition Award:

Based off of the students audition or creative portfolio that is submitted to NYFA. Audition and portfolio requirements can be found here.

Merit Based Tuition Award:

Based off of the students history of academic achievement in addition to leadership, community service and a commitment to the arts. Applicants are evaluated based upon information provided in the admissions process including high school GPA, SAT/ACT scores, and documentation of leadership, awards, special recognition, community service or arts involvement. Applicants must have a 3.25 GPA or above to be eligible for a Merit Scholarship. *International Students that wish to be considered for a Merit Based Scholarship must have academic transcripts converted by WES into a U.S. equivalent GPA.

Matthew Modine Masters Scholarship:

Based off the students exhibition of exemplary purpose, creativity, and commitment to community. This is awarded to outstanding candidates who wish to further the art of visual storytelling. An enrollment advisor or relevant faculty or staff must nominate the student. A scholarship officer or committee selects the recipients. Only 5 – 10 of these discounts are awarded per year. Scholarships are based on information provided in the admissions process including the audition/portfolio, undergraduate academic performance, professional experience, narrative statement, letters of recommendation, admissions interview as well as evidence of leadership, community service and arts participation. Full details can be found here.

Needs Based Tuition Assistance:

Based off of the students (or family’s) financial need. Students must submit a 1 to 2 page essay discussing the student’s financial circumstances, and explaining their financial need for assistance, as well as stating where the remaining amounts will be coming from. They will then also need to submit financial documentation. Full details can be found here.

Process to Apply:

The Talent Based Award MUST be applied for first. Once that is determined you can then apply for the Merit Based Award or Matthew Modine Scholarship (if eligible, please see above.)

  • The Talent Based Award
    • This is based on the students creative portfolio or audition that is submitted
  • The Merit Based Award
    • Once we have received the WES conversion and GPA proves to be a 3.25 GPA or above, you must provide proof of merit. These can include award certificates, press clippings, membership cards, participation letters, and professional resumes
    • **If the GPA is not a 3.25 GPA or above, students are not eligible for the Merit Based Award
  • The Matthew Modine Scholarship
    • Must be nominated by an enrollment advisor or relevant faculty/staff
    • Based on information provided in the admissions process including the audition/portfolio, undergraduate academic performance, professional experience, narrative statement, letters of recommendation, admissions interview as well as evidence of leadership, community service and arts participation.
  • Once the above discount total amount is determined and if it is not the full amount that can possibly be awarded, then the student can apply for the Needs Based Tuition Assistance.
  • If your student is not eligible for a Talent or Merit Based/Matthew Modine Scholarship (based on the valid programs above), then the student can apply straight for the Needs Based Tuition Award.
    • In order to apply for the Needs Based Tuition Award, the student needs to submit the Needs Based Tuition Award application form, application essay and financial proof (full details can be found here).
